brainstormed, designed, modeled and sculpted a character from the ground up with help of a colleague for the story part and a professional character sculptor for the modelling part. Her name is Emilia ^^
early concept stages where the brainstorming was mostly text - but i did do pose sketches to get a feel of her personality.
I drew her mostly from the text descriptions I already had and Steampunk clothing references i searched for online - but a clothing style that let the viewer know she is from a somewhat low societal class.
An alternative shorter haircut with a beret/hat, giving a more boyish look
originally went for the boots on the right but I've had the remark that these were maybe too fancy - so I gave her boots that looked tougher and rougher, reminiscent of Doc Martens. You know she's down to earth and ready to kick ass :p
I proceeded to draw a front and side reference sheet as well as her bag that i thought of during sketches
mesh after pritimites, scult and retopo
hair made from path curves with varying thickness
made a skeleton with basic IK to pose the character
don't mind the wonky hands ^^
alternative hair method i tried: made a few hair particles on a separate blend file, rendered it and put it on a plane that i subdivided and made it follow curves. this method is very tedious and hard to make it look good when you're a beginner haha.
